Doors: The Great Outdoors is a major update to the DOORS game that adds an entirely new subfloor known as The Outdoors. This new section is available directly from the lobby and offers an environment different from the standard hotel and mine areas. The Outdoors can be entered without cost until August 25, 2025, after which access will require Stardust. The addition expands the overall structure of the game and introduces new gameplay systems alongside visual and functional changes.

New locations, entities, and items

The Outdoors brings a number of new entities that players must recognize and learn to avoid or counter. These include The Caws, Groundskeeper, Monument, Surge, Mandrake, Grampy, Eyestalk, Bramble, and Lotus. Alongside these, new items have been introduced: a compass for navigation, different key types, a blood bag, a lantern, and the lotus flower with its associated pink pedal. These additions expand both exploration possibilities and in-game strategies by offering new ways to interact with the environment.

Mechanics and structural changes

With this update, Stardust is introduced as a new currency. It can be used to obtain items, unlock skins, and purchase chromas for further customization. The Skeleton Key now has five uses instead of one, which changes how players plan their runs. The game also includes new loading screens for various modes, additional administrative tools, and extra side rooms within hotel sections. Access to The Outdoors is possible via a new elevator from the lobby, which is free during the early period and later requires 10 Stardust to use.

Key elements of the update:

  • Addition of The Outdoors as a separate subfloor
  • New entities such as The Caws, Lotus, and Groundskeeper
  • Introduction of items like the compass, lotus flower, and lantern
  • Stardust currency for unlocking skins and chromas
  • Expanded Skeleton Key uses and side-room variations

Impact on gameplay and strategy

The new environment requires changes to movement patterns and awareness of different entity behaviors. Items like the compass and lantern support exploration in ways not previously available, while Stardust offers a new layer of progression. The extended use of the Skeleton Key allows for more efficient unlocking across multiple areas within a single run, encouraging long-term planning.

Overall significance

Doors: The Great Outdoors extends the scope of DOORS by adding new spaces, mechanics, and customization systems. Players now have additional decisions to make about navigation, currency use, and equipment management. The combination of free early access and new collectible systems gives players a reason to explore The Outdoors extensively before it becomes part of the regular Stardust economy.
