Gone Fishing is a cooperative survival horror game built around one rule — feed the lake monster before night arrives, or it will feed on you. Each session starts at sunrise, giving the team a limited window to prepare for what’s coming. During the day, players must explore the area, gather bait, catch enough fish, and deliver them to the altar before the sun sets. The more days you survive, the hungrier and more dangerous the creature becomes. This cycle forces players to work quickly and think ahead, as hesitation can cost the entire team their lives.

Working Together To Stay Alive

Gone Fishing is not about fishing alone. It’s about cooperation. While one player casts their line, another might be searching for rare bait in the swamp or chasing frogs along the shore. Division of labor is key. Without proper teamwork, the group will struggle to collect enough resources before nightfall. Communication plays an equally important role — knowing who is doing what and when prevents wasted time. As the days progress, the demands for survival grow heavier, making early coordination the foundation for lasting more than a few nights.

Fishing, Trading, And Offering

Fishing in Gone Fishing is an active process that requires attention and timing. Players must wait for the right moment to set the hook and then manage the line’s tension to bring in the catch without losing it. Every fish caught creates a choice — bring it straight to the altar to feed the monster or trade it with the wandering merchant who arrives each day by airship. The merchant sells useful gear, totems, and upgrades that can give the team an advantage. The decision between immediate sacrifice and long-term preparation is constant, and making the wrong choice can mean the difference between safety and disaster.

Core tasks in Gone Fishing include:

  •         Gathering live bait from the surrounding environment
  •         Catching fish using skill-based timing and control
  •         Delivering fish to the altar before nightfall
  •         Trading with the merchant for upgrades and survival tools
  •         Managing priorities as the monster’s hunger increases daily

Nightfall Brings The Hunt

If the team fails to meet the offering requirement, the lake becomes silent, and the hunt begins. The monster emerges from the depths, searching for any survivors. There is no truly safe location — the creature can reach any part of the map. Some players may try to outrun it, while others hide in hopes of lasting until dawn, but every failed night makes the next one harder. The only reliable protection is to keep the monster fed, which means working together and staying efficient every single day.
