Out of the Ink Machine was a cancelled Bendy and the Ink Machine mod built around a new character named Ollie, also known as Oliver. Although the project never reached completion, it introduced a concept that stood apart from the main game. Players were guided through the mod by Ollie’s voice, who constantly repeated phrases like “follow the path” and demanded to be released from the Ink Machine. If the player followed his instructions, Ollie would appear, either breaking through obstacles or emerging from the ink itself in an attempted chase. Though he never catches the player, his presence continues in the post-credits scene, where he holds the axe and gestures for silence.
Ollie also appeared in a modded version of the original Bendy prototype, where his cutouts — and occasionally his form — would randomly spawn and stalk the player. If not removed in time, they could cause the game to crash. Visually, Ollie resembled the familiar Bendy silhouette, but with changed features: wider grin, smaller eyes, and horns shifted to the sides of his head. A second form was planned for Chapter 2, showing Ollie as a paper-like creature with a thinner face, only briefly visible during a scripted moment involving Sammy. This second form was never implemented due to the cancellation of the chapter.
While Out of the Ink Machine didn’t reach a full narrative arc, the available content suggested a focus on self-awareness and distorted memory. Ollie would often break the fourth wall, ask questions about the player’s real name, and comment on being recorded. Developers revealed that Ollie was designed as a symbol of players obsessed with the past — a character who builds his world out of misplaced nostalgia. Unlike other figures in the mod, Ollie is implied to be truly alive, shaping his own reality using leftover assets and emotional manipulation. Though development stopped, concept art hinted at additional chapters, suggesting that the story was meant to continue far beyond what was released.
