Scarlet Skips is a one-button roguelike about helping Scarlet get outside and improve her mood by jumping rope. The premise is simple rather than story-driven: Scarlet is stuck in a difficult period, and the player helps her move forward one jump at a time. There are no known story chapters or traditional named levels. Instead, the game is organized around repeated runs where the objective is to keep skipping, earn higher scores, level up, and build stronger combinations of upgrades.

One Button Controls Every Jump

The entire jumping system uses press, hold, and release inputs from a single button. Timing determines how Scarlet interacts with the rope, so the main challenge is maintaining a successful sequence without mistiming a jump. The control scheme stays simple while longer runs require increasingly consistent inputs. Scarlet’s movement also reacts dynamically to gameplay conditions through a combination of character animations and procedural movement.

Leveling Up During a Run

Progression follows a roguelike structure. As Scarlet levels up, the player is presented with three randomly selected power-ups and chooses one to add to the current build. The available upgrades can change how jumping works and can be stacked together to produce different combinations.

The main gameplay systems include:

  • One-button press, hold, and release controls
  • Continuous jump-rope timing
  • Score-based runs
  • Level-ups during play
  • Three random upgrade choices when leveling
  • 10 upgrade cards
  • Increased jump height
  • Additional jump ropes
  • A fire effect for the rope
  • Stackable upgrade combinations

These upgrades make each run develop differently. A player may concentrate on jump height in one attempt, add more ropes in another, or combine several effects into the same build. The official description also encourages experimenting with different upgrade combinations and optional self-imposed restrictions rather than following one required progression path.

Surviving Longer and Raising the Score

Scarlet Skips does not currently describe a conventional final level or campaign ending. The main objective is to maintain the skipping sequence for as long as possible and increase the score while developing a useful upgrade build. Successful play depends on learning the timing of the single-button controls, choosing upgrades that work together, and adapting when random power-up selections change the options available during a run.
