Slendrina: The Cellar is a first-person horror game in which the player enters an underground maze controlled by Slendrina. The protagonist’s identity and reason for visiting the location are not explained through dialogue or cutscenes. The central situation is simple: an intruder is trapped inside the cellar and must collect eight missing books before escaping. Slendrina considers the area her territory and appears throughout the search to stop the player.
Books can appear in rooms, corridors, or other searchable areas. Several doors are locked, so the player must also collect yellow keys scattered around the map. Each key is consumed after opening one door, making exploration necessary even when the next book is already visible. Object positions may change between attempts, preventing players from following the same route in every session.
Slendrina can appear suddenly in front of or behind the player. Looking directly at her causes damage and can quickly end the attempt. There are no weapons, hiding places, or combat abilities, so survival depends on turning the camera away immediately. Players should continue moving while checking nearby rooms, but frequent camera turns increase the chance of facing Slendrina when she appears.
A successful search usually requires these actions:
The game contains three cellar maps rather than a continuous campaign. Cellar 1 introduces the basic layout and search mechanics. Cellar 2 is larger and contains more corridors, while Cellar 3 provides another arrangement with a smaller structure. Each map uses the same objective but changes room placement and navigation. Difficulty settings affect Slendrina’s behavior and how much pressure she applies during exploration.
