There Is No Game: WD is a puzzle adventure game developed and published by Draw Me A Pixel. WD stands for Wrong Dimension, and the full title is There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension. The game was released for Windows and macOS in 2020, with later versions for Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch. It is a single-player game where the player interacts with the screen, the interface, and the narrator instead of controlling a normal character in a standard world.

A Game That Says It Is Not a Game

The story begins with the program trying to stop the player from playing. The narrator, called Game, speaks directly to the player and reacts to their actions. After the player ignores these warnings, the situation turns into a journey through broken software, fake menus, game genres, and other dimensions. The plot includes Game, the User, and an anomaly called Mr. Glitch, who creates problems across the system.

In the middle of the game, the player solves puzzles by clicking, dragging, combining objects, and thinking about the interface in unusual ways. Main gameplay elements include:

  •         point-and-click puzzle solving;
  •         interaction with menus, icons, text, and objects;
  •         fourth-wall-breaking narration;
  •         references to different game genres;
  •         hidden clues and visual hints;
  •         a hint system for difficult puzzles;
  •         chapter-based progression;
  •         two possible endings.

Chapters Across Wrong Dimensions

There Is No Game: WD does not use traditional action levels. Its structure is divided into chapters, each built around a different setting or game concept. Listed chapters include Mise en abyme, Behind the Scenes, The Good, the Bad and the Princess, Free2Pay, Loss of Control, Back Home, and an epilogue. Each chapter changes the rules and asks the player to solve problems in a different way.

How the Player Interacts

To play There Is No Game: WD, the player mainly uses the mouse or touch controls. The game can be played by clicking, dragging, dropping, and testing objects on the screen. The player should listen to the narrator, but also question what he says, because many puzzles require doing the opposite of the instructions. Progress depends on observing small details, trying unusual actions, and using clues from the environment.

There Is No Game: WD is mainly about puzzle solving, dialogue, and interaction with the idea of a game itself. It has a clear story, but the gameplay does not follow a standard adventure format. The player advances by breaking expected rules, moving through chapters, solving interface-based puzzles, and dealing with the consequences of releasing Mr. Glitch.
