Wuthering Waves is an open-world action RPG in which the player takes the role of Rover, a traveler who awakens on Solaris-3 without clear memories of the past. The world is recovering from a catastrophe called the Lament, while dangerous creatures known as Tacet Discords continue to appear across its regions. Rover joins other fighters called Resonators, investigates local conflicts, and searches for information about their own identity.

A World Designed for Movement

Exploration is not limited to roads and marked quest routes. Characters can climb surfaces, run along walls, use a grappling tool, glide from high places, and reach areas hidden above or below the main path. Cities, ruins, forests, caves, research facilities, and hostile zones contain puzzles, supply chests, enemies, materials, and optional tasks. Story progress and Union Level gradually open access to additional activities and locations.

Building a Three-Character Team

Combat takes place in real time with a party of three Resonators. Players control one character at a time and switch between team members to continue combinations or activate Intro and Outro Skills. Every Resonator has a weapon type, normal attacks, a Resonance Skill, a Forte Circuit, and a powerful Resonance Liberation ability. During the game, players can:

  •         Follow main and companion quests
  •         Explore regions for resources and secrets
  •         Fight Tacet Discords and large bosses
  •         Dodge attacks and perform timed counters
  •         Switch Resonators during combat
  •         Collect and equip Echoes
  •         Upgrade characters, weapons, and skills
  •         Complete events and repeatable challenges

Attacking constantly is not always effective. Strong enemies use recognizable patterns, so players must watch their movements, avoid dangerous areas, and choose the correct moment to counterattack.

Echoes and Character Development

Defeated Tacet Discords may leave Echoes that can be equipped by Resonators. Echoes provide additional statistics and set effects, while the selected main Echo grants an active ability based on the captured creature. Players can combine these systems to create damage-focused, defensive, healing, or support builds for different encounters.
