Emily Wants to Play is a survival horror game where a pizza delivery worker becomes trapped inside a house with Emily and three dangerous dolls. The game has a story, but it is told indirectly through the setting, notes, recordings, and what happens during the night. The player arrives at an abandoned-looking house during a late delivery, the door locks behind him, and escape becomes impossible until morning.
The story begins at 905 Sister Street, where the delivery man enters the house and gets trapped. As the player explores, the game reveals information about Emily, her parents, and the dolls through drawings and audio tapes. The main goal is not to solve a long quest, but to survive inside the house from 11 PM until 6 AM. Each hour adds more danger and changes how the player must react.
Emily Wants to Play does not use levels like a platform game. Each stage is one hour of the night, and every hour works like a new survival phase. The first hour lets the player explore, but later hours introduce hostile dolls and then Emily herself. The game uses Kiki, Mr. Tatters, Chester, and Emily, and each one follows a different rule. If the player makes the wrong move, the attempt ends with a jump scare and restarts from the current hour.
Main gameplay elements include:
The gameplay is based on observation, movement, and memorizing enemy behavior. Kiki must be watched when she appears. Mr. Tatters requires the player to stop moving. Chester forces the player to run away. Emily changes the situation later with hide-and-seek-style rules. The challenge comes from handling several threats at the same time, because a safe reaction for one enemy may be unsafe for another.
To play Emily Wants to Play, explore the house carefully, listen for sounds, and learn what each doll wants before reacting. Running everywhere can cause mistakes, but standing still at the wrong time can also be dangerous. The player should use clues around the house, remember the rules for each hour, and survive until the front door can be used again. Emily Wants to Play is mainly about tension, enemy patterns, and surviving a locked house through correct reactions.
