Terpenie is a first-person psychological horror game set inside a small post-Soviet apartment where ordinary daily routines slowly turn into a survival nightmare. The story follows a tired worker returning home after a long day, expecting a quiet evening of cooking, cleaning, and resting. As the night continues, strange noises, suspicious neighbors, and signs of surveillance begin appearing around the building. The player slowly realizes that a dangerous maniac may already be watching from nearby apartments.

Everyday Life Inside the Apartment

The gameplay focuses on exploration, interaction, and tension-building rather than fast combat. Players move around the apartment performing simple tasks such as boiling dumplings, turning on lights, washing dishes, and checking the hallway through the door viewer. Many interactions seem harmless at first, but the atmosphere changes gradually as unusual events begin interrupting the routine.

The game does not use traditional combat systems or large open maps. Instead, progression happens through small story sections connected to the apartment and neighboring buildings. Different scenes reveal clues about murders, disappearances, and suspicious activity happening nearby. Some sequences require hiding from the maniac, while others focus on observation and puzzle-solving inside the apartment. As progression continues, the player discovers hidden details connected to the killer and the building itself.

Psychological Horror and Survival

One of the main mechanics in Terpenie is psychological tension created through sound, lighting, and uncertainty. The player never fully knows when the maniac may appear or what event will happen next. Certain actions trigger scripted horror moments, forcing players to react quickly while navigating dark hallways and cramped rooms.

Main gameplay activities include:

  • exploring the apartment and building
  • performing everyday household tasks
  • uncovering clues about the maniac
  • hiding during dangerous encounters
  • solving small environmental puzzles
  • progressing through story-driven horror scenes

Story Progression and Atmosphere

The game is played from a first-person perspective with controls focused on movement and interaction. Players examine objects, open cabinets, use household items, and investigate strange noises throughout the building. The apartment setting remains central during the experience, creating tension through isolation and limited space rather than large-scale action sequences.

Progress depends on observation, timing, and understanding environmental clues hidden around the apartment. Terpenie combines psychological horror with domestic realism while focusing on paranoia, isolation, and fear inside an ordinary post-Soviet living environment.
