Toca Lab: Elements turns the periodic table into an interactive laboratory populated by 118 animated chemical elements. Each element is represented as a character with its own color, shape, weight, movement, and sound. There is no storyline, protagonist, or final conflict. The main objective is to begin with a limited collection, perform experiments, and discover every remaining element until the periodic table is complete.

A Laboratory Without Instructions

The game encourages experimentation instead of providing fixed recipes. Players select an available element and drag it toward one of the laboratory stations. A successful treatment transforms the current character into another element, which is then added to the collection. If nothing happens, the player can return to the laboratory and try a different instrument. This trial-and-error structure allows discoveries to be made in various sequences.

Heat, Cold, Motion, and Electricity

Each machine applies a different type of treatment. The centrifuge spins an element at high speed, while the Bunsen burner exposes it to heat. A cooling station lowers its temperature, and test tubes add drops of an unidentified liquid. The oscilloscope changes electrical voltage and can produce magnetic effects. Elements react through animation, movement, facial expressions, and sound before a transformation occurs.

The main experimental actions include:

  • Select an element from the current periodic table.
  • Drag it into the centrifuge and adjust the spinning speed.
  • Place it above the burner to apply heat.
  • Move it onto the cooling station and observe the reaction.
  • Add one or more drops from the available test tubes.
  • Change the voltage through the oscilloscope.
  • Record newly discovered elements in the collection.

Discoveries Replace Traditional Levels

Toca Lab: Elements does not contain numbered levels, time limits, scores, or failure conditions. Progress is measured by the number of discovered elements. The periodic table acts as both a selection screen and a record of completion, showing which spaces have been filled and which elements remain unknown. Players can revisit any unlocked character and continue experimenting without losing earlier discoveries.
